HIDE AND REVEAL - GUAJA NATIONAL PARK FOOTBRIDGE COMPETITION

Guaja National Park, Sigulda, Latvia / Bee Breeders - Architecture Competition Organisers
Michelle Lazar, Matthew Sweig, Emily McKenna and Tupac Espinoza, 2019

FFLA’s competition submission used a hide and reveal effect with the landscape surrounding the Guaja National Park entrance to create a landmark gateway bridge. The bridge acts as a curtain, signifying the experience of crossing a threshold into a new space both above for pedestrians and below for drivers and bikers. The walls of cortan steel and adjacent staggered “fins” extend the entry to the park for cars and bikes, and frame the connection between local landmarks for pedestrians.

ST. CHARLES MARKET CONDOMINIUM
Landscape- Exterior Design: Plaza and Connections

FFLA worked closely with linebox STUDIO to develop a landscape that celebrates the character and presence of the existing church making seamless material connections from inside both the church and the condominium lobbies. The axes and proportions of the church direct and anchor the spatial gestures of the landscape.
The proposed new condominium building wraps around the existing church building. The church has historically hosted a local farmers market in its front yard. The development will extend the market concept into the church building as a permanent amenity for the residents and the neighborhood.
